West Ham finally moved out of the relegation zone after they drew 1-1 with Manchester City on Saturday night.

The Hammers were seven points from safety two months ago before this excellent run of form under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nuno and his first-choice goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, shared the same reaction to West Ham’s latest milestone.

Nuno and Mads Hermansen react to West Ham’s escape from relegation zone

West Ham’s point at home to Man City moved them into 17th place in the Premier League table, ahead of Nottingham Forest.

The Hammers (29) are also now level on points with Tottenham (29) and only two points below Leeds (31).

With eight games to go, the job is far from finished, but it is a significant moment when relegation had previously looked inevitable.

However, both Nuno and Hermansen dismissed the Hammers’ temporary escape as an achievement worth celebrating.

Nuno told whufc.com: “We are realising that nothing has changed, our fans know it, we know it, we have to work very hard, very hard, very hard.

Genuinely HEROIC! 💪

When was the last time you saw a defensive performance better than that?!

Erling Haaland of Manchester City reacts during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Manchester City at London Stadium on March 14, 2026 in London, United Kingdom.

“We don’t look at the table, we try to ignore it and stay humble, stay humble, stay humble, recognise that it’s a long, long way to go.”

Hermansen echoed the same sentiments as West Ham look ahead to another difficult game against Aston Villa.

“Apart from the good performance and the good feeling of delivering a good performance, we haven’t changed anything,” he said.

“We’re still not where we need to be, and we have eight games to go. So, there’s absolutely no time to rest. We have to keep going, keep working hard.”

With Nottingham Forest and Tottenham playing on Sunday, only time will tell whether West Ham remain above the bottom three.
