Newcastle could make ultimate mistake signing £30m man as West Ham make stance clear

West Ham United could be lent a big helping hand by Newcastle United it seems.

Both West Ham and Newcastle need to strengthen their ranks in the January transfer window.

Julen Lopetegui desperately requires a new number nine, whilst the same can be said for Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, who is in need of more quality cover for Alexander Isak.

It has already been claimed that Lopetegui has held transfer talks with David Sullivan regarding the addition of a new striker.

Michail Antonio is set to be out of action for at least 12 months, and the Hammers cannot rely on Danny Ings as an able deputy for the 34-year-old.

Signing a new striker will be pivotal to our hopes of making some genuine progress.

However, West Ham should not be panicking and jumping at the chance to sign the first striker who becomes available.

It seems like Newcastle may well be making that mistake for us…

Newcastle to make big mistake after West Ham decision

Lopetegui has to get his business absolutely spot on over the next two transfer windows, if he remains in charge at the London Stadium of course!

The addition of a proven centre-forward in January is no-negotiable if you ask me.

However, one centre-forward we are allegedly very keen on just isn’t the man for the job in my opinion.

And now Newcastle could make a big mistake after the Hammers made their stance very clear.

According to a report from The Sun, Newcastle are now keen to sign alleged Hammers target Dominic Calvert-Lewin this winter.

Lopetegui is said to be eyeing up a move to bring the injury-prone 27-year-old to the London Stadium as a long-term replacement for Michail Antonio.

However, a top source at West Ham has insisted that those claims are in fact not true whatsoever.

Everton want £30 million for Calvert-Lewin in January (The Athletic), but the Toon could pick him up on a free transfer in the summer it seems.

When they try to sign the Everton striker is irrelevant in my eyes – I’m just relieved that West Ham aren’t in for him.

There is a big red flag concerning Calvert-Lewin – his woeful injury record.

The 27-year-old has missed 69 games through injury since the start of the 2021/22 season (Transfermarkt).

He’ll be 28 in March, and his injury problems will undoubtedly get worse over the course of the next few years.

I don’t want West Ham going anywhere near Dominic Calvert-Lewin and thankfully, it seems like Newcastle will have a free run at signing him.
