West Ham now want to sign striker who’s scored 70 Premier League goals to replace Michail Antonio

Michail Antonio survived a horrific car crash earlier this month, and the fact he survived the accident was brilliant news.

However, his playing days may well be over at the London Stadium.

The 34-year-old striker is expected to be out of action for at least 12 months, and now West Ham have been left really short in the centre-forward department.

The good news is that the January transfer window is just around the corner, and Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten are clearly very keen to bring in a new striker in order to fill the void left by Michail Antonio.

Emmanuel Latte Lath of Middlesbrough is said to be one of the Hammers’ targets, and his agent posted a picture from the club’s academy training ground on Christmas Eve.

However, the Boro forward is not the only option we have.

There are plenty of strikers out there who are available for the right price this winter.

And the Hammers are said to be plotting a move for someone very close to home.

If the Hammers are to make some genuine progress, we need to sign a new striker there are no two ways about that.

We cannot continue to rely on playing Jarrod Bowen out of position as a central striker, if we are to fulfil our potential as a team.

And West Ham seemingly have a plan in place to address our centre-forward deficiencies.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, West Ham are interested in signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin in January.

Calvert-Lewin is a proven Premier League striker with 70 goals in England’s top flight to his name.

He is incredibly strong aerially, and would provide us with a completely different option through the middle.

However, there is a big red flag concerning the Everton hitman – his woeful injury record.

The 27-year-old has missed 69 games through injury since the start of the 2021/22 season (Transfermarkt).

He’ll be 28 in March, and his injury problems will undoubtedly get worse over the course of the next few years.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be available for around £30 million according to The Athletic, and I think that fee would represent too much of a risk for West Ham.

The Hammers should go all out for Jhon Duran instead.
