Michael Carrick has grand ambitions as Man United consider move after West Ham links explained

Former West Ham United midfielder Michael Carrick has been linked with a move back to the club in a managerial capacity.

Hammers News understands that West Ham have no immediate plans to sack Nuno Espirito Santo despite a dreadful run of form that leaves them battling against relegation.

If and when the time comes for a change, however, Carrick is a logical suggestion. The Manchester United legend began his playing career with West Ham United and has previously done good coaching work at Middlesbrough.

Imagine you are Nuno – What is the FIRST thing you are doing to save your job?

While he’s not a sure-fire bet, it seemed a fairly natural link.

However, a move to West Ham now seems unlikely at best, and so does the prospect of him joining forces with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick doesn’t want to be an assistant at Manchester United

Another of Carrick’s former clubs in the shape of Man United are on the hunt for a new boss following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

Carrick has been tipped as a potential interim option for them, alongside Solskjaer.

The idea that the two could actually work together on the Old Trafford touchline, however, feels fanciful.

That’s because, according to Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports on social media platform X, both of them view themselves as a No.1.

Prior to that, Sky Sports had suggested that Carrick will hold further talks with Man United about potentially taking charge.

Michael Carrick backed for West Ham job

It seems hugely unlikely that Carrick, who hasn’t coached since being sacked by Boro in June, will be joining West Ham any time soon.

Still, that hasn’t stopped the clamour for him.

In fact, pundit Don Hutchison recently urged West Ham to appoint Carrick as their new manager in a bid to prepare for a Championship campaign next time out.

On X earlier this week, the former Hammers midfielder said: “I would appoint Michael Carrick with the view of keeping West Ham up or worst case scenario prepare for the championship. Big call for the board this one!”

Again, that would feel like a risk. Carrick has shown some promise as a manager but it’s not all gone to plan for him. Carrick has been linked with West Ham but it doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

While not to completely write him off as a coach, he doesn’t have much in the way of experience other than a brief interim spell at Old Trafford and just under three years at Boro, which ended in rather underwhelming fashion.
