Manuel Lanzini has a huge chance to prove his worth to West Ham boss David Moyes away at Manchester United in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night.
The 28-year-old quite simply hasn’t been the same player since rupturing his ACL during the summer of 2018.
He did show a glimmer of what he is capable of late on last season when he was somewhat surprisingly deployed in the deep-lying central midfield role.
He suffered another injury shortly after and we haven’t seen much of him since.
Tomorrow night’s league cup clash with Manchester United should be a real opportunity for Lanzini to shine, however.
Manuel Lanzini has a huge opportunity vs Manchester United
The Argentinian ace will surely start tomorrow’s game at Old Trafford against Man United.
David Moyes may well opt to start three or four youngsters but it will be important to mix that with some old, experienced heads.
And Lanzini will surely get the nod tomorrow night. Whether that will be in the deep-lying role or in a more advanced position remains to be seen.
But either way, he absolutely must perform. If he doesn’t then Moyes surely won’t have any faith in him to produce the goods during big Premier League and European games this season.
Lanzini must show Moyes that he has something to offer otherwise he could be in line for the chop in January or next summer.
Manuel Lanzini at his best:
Tomorrow night’s clash with Manchester United is a huge one for West Ham. It could be argued that it’s even bigger for Lanzini from a personal perspective, however.
