El Hadji Malick Diouf is keen to remind everyone that the relegation battle is still in West Ham United’s hands right now.
There may have been an element of doom and gloom around West Ham United following their draw with Crystal Palace last time out, with many onlookers observing that it might have been a missed opportunity.
What changes would you make to this team? Feel free to tell me how wrong I’ve got it 😂
However, it’s worth remembering that West Ham are slight favourites to stay up ahead of Tottenham, boasting a two-point lead over their London rivals with five games remaining.
Diouf is eager to stress that very point.
Diouf says the relegation battle is in West Ham’s hands
The defender was speaking to West Ham United’s official website about the final few games of the campaign.
He said: “We’ve come so far. It was really difficult at the beginning of the season, but I think we are back, so we have to keep that. The battle is in our hands now. We have that in our hands, so we have to keep that and try to make a good result every time.”
Out of 10, how confident are you that West Ham will stay up? ⬆️
Nuno is feeling good! 🤩
He is, of course, right to point that out. Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side have not been in control of their own destiny for much of the season but finally have that luxury when it matters.
That is not to overlook the perilous situation they find themselves in, however.

Indeed, this coming weekend could be a pivotal one in the relegation battle. West Ham face a difficult game against Everton, while Spurs are favourites to beat Wolves at Molineux.
That might be giving Spurs too much credit but, frankly, West Ham have to plan for the very worst possible case scenario.
The shifting landscape of the relegation battle poses new problems for Nuno. His side are no longer the hunter, they are very much the hunted.
The most galling outcome possible would be for West Ham to work so hard to get themselves into a position to control their destiny, only for them to throw it away.
They are currently on course to survive relegation. Not many would have said that a few weeks ago, while not many might be saying it after this weekend if things do not go to plan on the pitch.
