Lucky escape for West Ham United with Aston Villa reportedly already trying to sell £16m flop Morgan Sanson.
The 28-year-old Aston Villa midfielder could soon leave Villa Park to join Ligue 1 club Strasbourg, according to Alsa’Sports.
Hammers boss David Moyes allegedly tried to bring Sanson to the London Stadium in January 2021.

However, in the end it was Villa who won the race for the Frenchman’s signature for around £16 million (The Guardian).
At the time, I was actually very annoyed that Villa beat us to the signing of Sanson – I thought he was perfect for us.
Missing out on the midfielder now looks like a real blessing in disguise for the Hammers though…
Aston Villa already trying to sell Morgan Sanson
With Alsa’Sports claiming that the 28-year-old is close to joining Strasbourg from Villa, it seems as though West Ham dodged a major bullet by not signing him two years ago.
What an utterly disastrous spell Sanson has had to endure in the West Midlands, with just 23 appearances for Aston Villa to his name in two years (Transfermarkt).

There are questions marks about his suitability to the robust and intense nature of Premier League football.
Morgan Sanson is obviously a very good footballer, but there is clearly a reason why Aston Villa want shot of him after just two years.
There are so many examples of players who West Ham have failed to sign before they go on to become elite stars. This time with Sanson though, it’s the other way around.
Everyone at West Ham will be breathing a sigh of relief that Moyes didn’t take the plunge on the Frenchman in the end.
