Lens beating West Ham United to Denis Zakaria signing this summer could be a blessing in disguise for us.

According to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb , West Ham now face competition from Lens for the signing of Denis Zakaria in the summer transfer window.

The East London outfit have been chasing a move to sign Zakaria all summer long it seems – and it was suggested just a couple of days ago that he is on the verge of moving to the London Stadium.

Hammers manager David Moyes is well-known to be in the market for a top-class central midfielder this summer, after Declan Rice left to join Arsenal.

Whilst the 26-year-old Switzerland international is a solid player, it could be argued that he’s not quite good enough to take West Ham to another level.

So losing out to Lens in the race for his signature may well end up being good news for us…

The Ligue 1 outfit are now lining up a move for the Juventus star to replace Seko Fofana who has just moved out to Saudi Arabia.

Now, there’s no need to worry if Lens sign Zakaria as far as I’m concerned – there are far better players out there available for us.

The likes of Sofyan Amrabat, Ibrahim Sangare, Khephren Thuram, Youssouf Fofana and Manu Kone are all still available.

All five of those are on another level entirely to Zakaria, and Thuram is the only one of them who would cost more than £40 million.

I feel like West Ham need to think outside the box this summer, and signing Denis Zakaria would not represent that.

The Switzerland international would be a decent addition, but a bland one.

I’m hoping that Moyes makes a real statement central midfielder signing this summer. And Lens signing Zakaria might help us do just that.
