Mohamadou Kante had some words of praise for central midfield partner Keiber Lamadrid after West Ham United were held to a 0-0 draw by Rangers at Ibrox.

For the third pre-season match in succession, the Venezuela international was handed a role in the centre of the park by Nuno Espirito Santo.

And, once again, Keiber Lamadrid impressed.

While Lamadrid still needs to work on his physicality – he was muscled off the ball a couple of times in Glasgow – Nuno’s number 21 was among West Ham’s few stand-out performers in a game short of inspiration.

Mohamadou Kante, who has played alongside his fellow youngster in a new-look, unexpected central midfield partnership at West Ham United, had nothing but praise for Lamadrid at full-time.

“Keiber is another young player, and it’s nice to play with him,” Kante says of a man two years his senior. “He’s a good footballer.

“I hope we can both continue getting minutes and improving, and that we can move forward together.”

With Mateus Fernandes gone and Tomas Soucek injured, both Kante and Lamadrid will fancy their chances of securing a starting spot when West Ham kick off the Championship campaign at Burnley three weeks from now.

The Hammers will face Magdeburg in Germany in their final pre-season fixture in seven days’ time. There is also an EFL Cup first-round clash at Portsmouth to come on August 8th.

Who do you think has ENHANCED their reputation in pre-season?

Ajala, Lamadrid and Jett Murphy may fancy their chances next season…

“There’s one game left of pre-season, in Germany, so we’re going to try and prepare well, mentally and physically,” adds Kante. “We’ll rest well, and we’ll look to get the job done.

“After a tough period, we’re all looking forward now. We know what the objective is, and we’re all focused on delivering.”
