The Jonathan David to West Ham United transfer saga has just taken a brand new twist.
West Ham were said to be set to open talks to sign Jonathan David imminently, with a potential £30 million deal on the cards.
Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui is firmly on the hunt for a new striker this summer, with an upgrade on Michail Antonio an absolute necessity.
Lille ace David certainly fits into that category.
Numerous journalists, including the likes of Ben Jacobs, have claimed that West Ham genuinely believe they can win the race for David’s signature this summer.
And now new information has come to light regarding the Hammers’ pursuit of the Canadian.

It’s still widely believed that he will leave Lille this summer.
However, is a move to West Ham really a realistic option for him?
Jonathan David to West Ham takes brand new twist
The Lille striker has long been linked with a move to the London Stadium, and those rumours resurfaced earlier this summer.
Now new information has seemingly come to light regarding his potential switch from France to East London.
According to a report from The Sun, the Hammers have now pulled out of the race to sign the 24-year-old Canada international.
The reason for that is because the striker’s agents are said to be demanding an extortionate £10 million fee for helping to facilitate the deal!
I think we can all agree that West Ham are right to pull the plug. Agents have far too much power in the game today, and their demands for the David transfer would take the cost of the deal up to £40 million – all for a player who will be out of contract in 12 month’s time.

The Lille forward is an electric player, there’s no doubting that.
The Canadian hitman bagged a really impressive 26 goals and nine assists in 47 games in all competitions for Lille last season.
He also has 27 goals in 52 international games for Canada to his name.
It goes without saying that the talented Lille centre-forward is on another level entirely to Michail Antonio, and I think he’d be perfectly suited to Premier League football.
However, it seems as though West Ham won’t be signing Jonathan David this summer, and that’s a real shame…but the correct call nonetheless.
