Jim White suggested that there was an outcry from some West Ham fans when Vladimir Coufal was signed in October, when speaking on talkSPORT yesterday.
It seems as though White takes great pride in trying to rile the Hammers fans up at every opportunity.
And he has certainly succeeded with his comments on Vladimir Coufal.
White told talkSPORT yesterday:
“I am no mouthpiece for Gold and Sullivan and I really do mean that. But you’ve got to salute what they have done. There was an outcry when Coufal was bought for £5 million and West Ham fans were saying what do you get for £5 million? Vladimir Coufal has been a revelation in a West Ham shirt.”
Where do we start with this statement?
It is clear that White is trying to be controversial in order to stir up interest in his show. But these comments are quite frankly absurd.
I cannot remember one West Ham fan who complained when we signed Vladimir Coufal.
If anything it was the exact opposite. The Hammers fans were buzzing when David Moyes brought the 28-year-old to the London Stadium because he had been recommended by Tomas Soucek.
At the time, Soucek was already somewhat of a cult hero at West Ham.
The general consensus amongst the fans was that if Soucek rates him then he must be good! That has turned out to be absolutely spot on as well.
White was well wide of the mark with his comments on Coufal. Some will say that he knew that as well and intended to cause division amongst the West Ham fans.
Whatever the reason is, we know the truth. Vlad was welcomed to East London with open arms by the fans.
And Jim White needs to remember that.
