Jermain Defoe has made an utterly baffling David Moyes claim ahead of the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday.
David Moyes will lead his West Ham team out against Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final in two day’s time, and Jermain Defoe has been raving about the Scot.

The Hammers haven’t won a major trophy since 1980, so Moyes will undoubtedly deserve great credit if he guides his side to Conference League glory.

Defoe is well-known for being a big fan of Moyes, and has praised him to the hilt in the past.
However, many Hammers fans don’t believe the 60-year-old is the man to take the team to the next level, and think that he should be moved on this summer, regardless of what happens on Wednesday night.
The reasoning for that is that Moyes is incredibly limited and one-dimensional tactically. So with that in mind, Defoe’s latest comments will undoubtedly come as a real shock to the West Ham fans…
Jermain Defoe makes utterly baffling David Moyes claim ahead of Europa Conference League final
The ex-Hammer has been speaking about the West Ham boss in the build-up to the Conference League final out in Prague.
And Defoe left no doubt about how he feels about Moyes, as quoted by Irish News:

“It’s amazing really, an unbelievable story. It will be nice to see the boys win and for David Moyes who I played under – he is a top manager. I have not been surprised to be honest (with West Ham reaching the final) because tactically Moyes is so good. His attention to detail, he spends a lot of time setting the team up, he’s experienced so I have not been surprised. There has been a lot of speculation about his (Moyes) future and to top this off with a trophy it would be amazing.”
Listen, I don’t want to be too overly critical of Moyes here. We are on the cusp of winning our first major trophy for 43 years under his guidance.
So the Scot undoubtedly deserves a lot of credit. However, to suggest that he is ‘so good’ tactically is either disingenuous or completely delusional.
In fact, the West Ham manager’s inability to mix things up and his boring, predictable tactical setup has really held us back in the Premier League this season.
Moyes has proven throughout his career that he has a ceiling. He coaches very hard-working teams who are notoriously difficult to play against…but that’s about it. If the Hammers want to make real progress and fight for a top six spot in the league again, the Scot is not the man for the job.
And that’s what makes Jermain Defoe’s praise of David Moyes so baffling.
