Jarrod Bowen hammer blow emerges for West Ham, ‘nightmare situation’

Jarrod Bowen is West Ham United’s best player, by quite some margin as well.

West Ham signed Bowen from Hull City on transfer deadline day in January 2020 and he has gone on to become a real fan favourite at the London Stadium.

It’s fair to say that Bowen has been under the microscope at West Ham this season.

Bowen definitely hasn’t been at his very best, but it’s frightening to think where the Hammers would be without him.

Jarrod Bowen faces a critical juncture in his career…😟

What does the future hold for him if West Ham get relegated?

Bowen has bagged 80 goals and 53 assists in 261 appearances for the Hammers so far (Transfermarkt).

It goes without saying that the England international is indispensable to West Ham.

However, a hugely worrying claim has just been made about Bowen…

Jarrod Bowen hammer blow emerges for West Ham

Bowen has so much pressure on his shoulders right now.

He is the captain of the team and the responsibility is on him to help drag the Hammers out of the mess they are currently in.

When speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, football journalist Dean Jones shared some info about the Hammers’ current situation and what it could mean for Bowen.

“Jarrod Bowen is not going to be playing in the championship for West Ham United, Jones insisted.

“West Ham are trying to stop Paqueta from going, and they might win that battle. They might force Paqueta to stay right now, especially if Flamengo don’t put up a high enough offer to sign in, which they probably won’t because they don’t probably have the cash to entice West Ham into a sale.

“But if Paqueta was to get his way, then it would lead the way for others to be like, I don’t really fancy being here either. Now, Jarrod Bowen has been very loyal to the cause, and I think he will stay for now. But there’s no way Jarrod Bowen could go and play in the Championship

“So he would leave if they go down. So again, mid-season crisis, mid-season disaster is exactly what we’re looking at here. There’s protests, there’s bad board decisions, there’s relegation.

It truly is a nightmare situation.”

Bowen leaving would be hugely damaging for West Ham United.

However, if the Hammers do go down and the 29-year-old moves on, the fanbase will surely send him off with their blessing.

Jarrod Bowen would leave with West Ham fans’ blessing

Bowen has done more for West Ham than most other players throughout the history of the club.

He scored the winning goal for West Ham in the Europa Conference League final in 2023 and always gives 100% whenever he puts on the shirt.

Is Jarrod Bowen really the right man to captain West Ham? Who should replace him as skipper?

“Jarrod is a great leader and the club would be in an even bigger mess without him.

“But it’s difficult to lead the team as an offensive player. [Mark] Noble and [Declan] Rice were midfielders and could see everything.

“If Jarrod wants to shout at someone, he could be on the other side of the pitch, which makes it harder.”

– Vladimir Coufal on Bowen’s leadership issues

“Even [Virgil] Van Dijk was trying to save Paqueta, and that’s your opponent saying ‘get back’.

“It’s nothing against Bowen. I think he’s a fantastic player, but that’s not his character.”

– Nigel Reo-Coker on Lucas Paqueta’s Liverpool red card

The thing is, Bowen is far too good to be playing in the Championship and the majority of West Ham fans will understand that.

As long as he doesn’t hand in a transfer request the day after the final game of the season like a certain Jermain Defoe, then he’ll be just fine!

If the Hammers do achieve the impossible and remain in the Premier League this season, Bowen will most likely stay at the London Stadium.

However, if they go down, the former Hull City forward will undoubtedly move on for pastures new and that is a very sad thought.
