West Ham completed a dramatic deadline day swoop for Jarrod Bowen at the very last minute last night.
The 23-year-old joined the Hammers from Hull City for £22 million (The Guardian).
And West Ham fans will surely delighted. There is some cause for concern, however.
The Guardian claims that Bowen has signed a long-term deal worth £60,000 per week. But, and this could prove to be crucial at the end of the season, he allegedly has a £20 million relegation release clause inserted into his contract.
West Ham are currently in all sorts of trouble. They are in a real relegation battle. There are no two ways about that.
And if they do end up going down, as pessimistic as that might sound, then they risk losing Bowen for what must be considered as peanuts in the current climate.
Hopefully that will not happen, and the 23-year-old will fire West Ham to safety between now and May.
The former Hereford man was on fire for Hull this season in the Championship, racking up 16 goals and seven assists in 29 outings (Who Scored).
And if he can replicate that kind of form in the Premier League, the Hammers will have no problem avoiding relegation down to the Championship.
