Jamie Redknapp made bold claim about West Ham pre-Arsenal and it already looks rather foolish

Jamie Redknapp suggested that West Ham United should be favourites to finish in fourth spot before we played Arsenal yesterday, when speaking on Sky Sports Super Sunday (March 21st, 2:47pm).

The Hammers are still in a strong position, despite throwing away a three goal lead against the Gunnersyesterday.

Things would have looked really rosy had we beaten Arsenal, however.

West Ham are now two points behind Chelsea.

And the real worry is that yesterday’s bitterly disappointing defeat to the Gunners will have mentally affected the Hammers players.

Let’s hope that’s not the case.

We have nine cup finals remaining. And we still have to play a lot of the teams in and around us at home.

Jamie Redknapp suggested that the Hammers should be favourites for the top four because of the games they have left and the fact that they don’t have any other competitions to worry about, when speaking on Sky Sports Super Sunday (March 21st, 2:47pm):

“If you look at their fixtures, they should be favourites to finish inside the top four still. Chelsea have got the Champions League. They’ve got Chelsea to come at home, Leicester at home, Everton at home.”

Redknapp’s suggestion already seems to be well wide of the mark.

West Ham’s performance in the second-half was so poor. Referee John Moss contributed as well. But on the whole, it was the players who were to blame.

Redknapp clearly forgot about our woefully inept squad depth.

Arsenal brought on Nicolas Pepe, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith-Rowe in the second-half. Meanwhile, West Ham brought on Mark Noble and Ryan Fredericks.

David Moyes’s lack of options may well end up costing us a place inside the top four this season. And we all know the two people who are solely to blame for that…
