West Ham United boss David Moyes could spring something of a surprise with his team selection against Dinamo Zagreb this evening.
West Ham kick off their Europa League campaign in Croatia at 5.45pm.
Hammers fans have been debating whether to go strong with team selection or field a much-changed team with one eye on Sunday’s Premier League game against Manchester United.
Moyes has also been talking in the build-up to the game about the need to balance his team selections between Europe and the Premier League.
‘I’ll be trying to find the right team at the right time to fit in with the fixtures we’ve got’
“I think the boys who played last year did an incredible job to get us here, so they need a little bit of an opportunity to show that, but I’ve not brought in players just to stand back and watch,” Moyes said in his pre-match press conference (whufc.com).
“We’ve got six games in this tournament so as it goes on I’ll know better by the end of it, but probably in the early days I’ll be trying to find the right team at the right time to fit in with the Premier League fixtures we’ve got as well.”
Much of the debate has centered around who should play in midfield and up front for West Ham at the Stadion Maksimir.
Insider report claims Moyes could spring a surprise by handing Diop his first start of the season alongside new boy Zouma
But according to a new report from Football Insider, Moyes could spring a surprise by handing fourth-choice centre-back Issa Diop his first start of the season.
Football Insider claims Moyes could pair Diop with new signing Kurt Zouma in the heart of West Ham’s defence.
“The London club signed Kurt Zouma from Chelsea in a £25million deal towards the end of the summer window,” Football Insider reports.
“But first choice centre-back pair Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson will be 34 and 32 by the end of the season.
Some Hammers fans felt Zouma would be good for Diop, so Dinamo could be an early chance to test that theory
“The veteran duo have started all four of the Irons’ Premier League matches this season although Zouma and Issa Diop could be paired together for tonight’s Europa League clash against Dinamo Zagreb.”
Diop has struggled to establish himself under Moyes and when he has had a run of games, the French born star has failed to maintain consistency.
Many West Ham fans felt playing alongside France international Zouma could be good for Diop.
If Football Insider are correct, Hammers supporters will get an early chance to see if that is the case.
