Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips admitted that he needs to learn from the likes of West Ham United ace Jesse Lingard when it comes to leadership skills, when speaking exclusively to MOTDX.
The 25-year-old has impressed in the heart of Leeds’ midfield this season.
Phillips is undoubtedly a hugely important player for Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.
And he was rewarded for his fine form with a call-up to the England national squad for this week’s round of fixtures.
Despite his undoubted quality, Phillips still has so much to learn.
Kalvin Phillips name-checks Jesse Lingard when discussing where he can improve
The Leeds ace perhaps isn’t quite as vocal as he should be for someone who is such a pivotal figure for the Whites.
And the 25-year-old name-checked West Ham star Jesse Lingard when speaking to MOTDX about a part of his game that he needs to work on:
“I think I learn off everyone. But you see players like Rashford and Jesse Lingard and stuff like that. Even someone like Harry Kane. Be a bit more of a leader. I don’t think that I’m too good at it at the minute, but hopefully I can start to get good at it after I’ve got a few more games under my belt.”
Lingard has led by example since joining West Ham on loan from Manchester United in January.
The 28-year-old has had a huge impact for David Moyes’s side at the London Stadium.
He is absolutely adored by the Hammers fans.
It seems as though Lingard has made a big impression outside of East London as well.
And Kalvin Phillips praising his contemporary should be seen as a big compliment for the West Ham ace.
