There has been a huge twist in West Ham’s relegation battle after breaking news about Jesse Marsch at Leeds with the Saints said to be on the brink of wielding the axe.

West Ham have already cost managers of two relegation rivals their jobs this season.

And now it seems the axe is about to fall on another two according to claims around Leeds United and Southampton.

Bruno Lage lost his job at Wolves after a defeat to West Ham earlier this season.

And the same fate befell former Hammers star Frank Lampard when Everton were put to the sword a couple of weeks ago.

While West Ham picked up a positive draw at Newcastle at the weekend, Leeds were beaten in a relegation six-pointer by Nottingham Forest.

And Southampton were well beaten 3-0 by Brentford to pile the pressure on manager Nathan Jones – who was only appointed just before the World Cup break in November.

As a result, Leeds and Southampton are two of only four clubs currently below West Ham in the table.

According to BBC Sport this afternoon, Leeds manager Marsch has been sacked after a run of seven Premier League games without a win.

Meanwhile The Daily Mail claims Jones is also on the brink at Southampton after their latest defeat and his ‘bizarre’ post-match press conference.

David Moyes found himself under huge pressure at West Ham going into the recent Everton game.

The Hammers won that 2-0 and the board decided to stick by Moyes.

In the meantime the likes of Leeds and Southampton went for broke in the January transfer window.

Leeds signed four players for around £48m and broke their transfer record in the process.

Saints meanwhile splashed £65m on five new players.
