How many goals Jordan Hugill has scored since leaving West Ham United in 2020 really isn’t surprising one little bit.

David Moyes brought the 30-year-old to the London Stadium from Preston North End during his first stint in charge of the club in January 2018, for around £8 million (Daily Mail).

Hugill proved to be a terrible signing for the Hammers though, scoring zero goals in only three games for the club.

The striker was swiftly moved on from West Ham in the summer of 2020, with Norwich City paying £5 million to sign him (The Evening Standard).

But how has he got on since leaving East London?

The journeyman striker has played for six different clubs since leaving the Hammers!

Hugill has scored 33 goals in 169 appearances for Middlesbrough, Queens Park Rangers, Norwich City, West Brom, Cardiff City and Rotherham United combined (Transfermarkt).

That really is a poor return isn’t it – just 0.2 goals per game. One in five just isn’t going to cut it for a striker, at any level.

Hugill’s form since leaving West Ham has made selling him for £5 million look like a great deal, in spite of the fact that we made a £3 million loss on him!

David Moyes has always had trouble signing strikers. My belief is that his method of easing new signings in does not lend itself to forward players getting off the mark quickly and building up their confidence.

Now, that wasn’t necessarily the case with Hugill. The 30-year-old just wasn’t good enough for Premier League football, it’s as simple as that.

How many goals Jordan Hugill has scored since leaving West Ham has proven that moving him on was 100% the right decision.
