David Moyes has just really contradicted himself with West Ham United summer transfer window claim.

The West Ham manager made eight new signings in the summer transfer window, including Alphonse Areola, who had spent the previous season on loan at the London Stadium.

In addition to the Frenchman, Moyes brought in Lucas Paqueta, Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet, Emerson Palmieri, Flynn Downes and Thilo Kehrer.

The average age of those players was just under 26, at the time when the Hammers signed them.

Now, at the age of 26, you’re considered to be a fairly proven player, and your name will be well-known! In addition to that, Moyes signed 30-year-old Danny Ings in January as well!

And the Scot’s recent comments completely go against his summer transfer philosophy…

Moyes contradicts himself with West Ham transfer claim

The Scot has been speaking on Michael Calvin’s Football People podcast, discussing all things West Ham.

The Hammers boss responded when asked how clubs like the Hammers can compete with the financial powerhouses of world football:

“I think as a football club, I think there is so much room for improvement. I think we can do things better here. I think that in the future, hopefully I will be able to help them or guide them. Show them the way that I think we should be going forward and using my experience to help that. I think that there are some clubs following some [different] pathways. So, a Brighton or Brentford might be following a different route to other clubs. But I think you’re right about how can West Ham compete with the spending powers of maybe three or four clubs in the Premier League. We probably don’t have that spending power. So, what we might try and do then is find a way of getting good players and identifying them early, us working them in.”

The problem here is that Moyes hasn’t identified any unpolished gems that are not known by other clubs in the Premier league.

Every single one of his summer signings were household names, aside from maybe Flynn Downes, but he’s 24!

In Moyes’s defence, he did sign unproven youngster Luizao in January, and that’s exactly the kind of signing we should be making more of as a club.

David Moyes either wants to implement the so-called ‘Red Bull’ philosophy at West Ham or he doesn’t. I’m tired of him making bold declarations but not backing them up with actions in the transfer market.

It will be interesting to see what route he takes with regards to player recruitment in the summer transfer window, if he is still in charge at the London Stadium of course.
