Crysencio Summerville’s calf injury is a major blow for West Ham United.
Though there have been many success stories at West Ham United amid their recent revival, Summerville has surely been the standout.
The Dutchman has emerged as one of the best players in the Premier League in 2026, scoring five goals and registering one assist in his last nine games.
If Summerville is out, who do YOU want to see start on the left?
If the Hammers are to stay in the Premier League this season, they need the winger to continue in that form for as long as possible.
With that in mind, Summerville’s calf injury is a huge blow to everyone here in east London – though perhaps his absence won’t be for as long as initially feared.

Summerville’s potential return date is 22 March
Indeed, Hammers News understands that Summerville could potentially return for West Ham’s game against Aston Villa on Sunday, 22 March, 2026.
While that’s not a guarantee, a club spokesman told the website: “Who knows if he will miss both the Man City and Aston Villa matches or be back for Villa?”

In a perfect world, Summerville would only miss one match – which comes at home to Manchester City on Saturday, 14 March, 2026.
Clearly, that is not ideal and West Ham’s already somewhat slim chances of claiming a victory will narrow even further without him.
However, the news that the 24-year-old may only miss one game is much better than many would have feared when he was hobbling towards the end of the game against Brentford on Monday night in the FA Cup.
The relegation battle is tight and Summerville could yet be a gamechanger. If he’s back for the Villa game, then perhaps West Ham can head into the final international break of the season off the back of what would be a statement Premier League victory.
West Ham cannot afford to do without Summerville at all, but it does seem as if crisis has been averted for now.
