A highly-placed West Ham board source has delivered a crushing blow as fans are warned of London Stadium consequences.

West Ham fans were excited when a new report carried some optimistic claims about the future of the club overnight.

Speculation surrounding a West Ham takeover and the future of the London Stadium has been incessant over the last few months.

That has ramped up over the last week as you will have seen when Hammers News reported on claims that West Ham were open to buying the stadium but attempts to hold talks had fallen on deaf ears.

West Ham star Vladimir Coufal also appeared to drop a big hint that Daniel Kretinsky does plan to eventually launch a full takeover of the club.

But it seems Hammers supporters should cool their jets on any excitement surrounding a full Daniel Kretinsky takeover or owning West Ham’s much maligned home ground.

Because a highly-placed West Ham board source has delivered a crushing blow as fans are warned of London Stadium consequences.

Claims from The Times’ Chief Sports Reporter Martyn Ziegler that Kretinsky could complete a full takeover of West Ham AND buy the London Stadium outright have been dismissed out of hand by the source.

Speaking to Claret and Hugh, the source – described as a ‘high level board insider’ – poured cold water on the exciting claims.

The report states that a full Kretinsky takeover is ‘unlikely anyway anywhere near the immediate future’.

And the source also warned fans that season ticket prices might double if the Hammers were to take ownership of the London Stadium.

“Who wants to take on a £20/£30m annual loss and as stadium is now seven years old there are some huge maintenance and repair bills starting that will increase annually…” the source told Claret and Hugh.

“If we bought the stadium season tickets might need to go up 50/100 per cent!”

An architect gave Hammers supporters a glimpse of just how amazing a West Ham-owned and redeveloped London Stadium could be with concept images at the weekend.

But after this new denial – coupled with claims of late that David Moyes will remain West Ham manager even if the club are relegated – it is easy to understand why some supporters are becoming very frustrated.
