Former West Ham United midfielder Freddie Ljungberg couldn’t resist a dig at his former club when he was asked for their Player of the Year.

The Swede, of course, is far more famous for his time at Arsenal, with his brief time here in east London little more than a footnote on his CV.

It’s NOW or NEVER! 😬 How will West Ham fare in their HUGE game vs Leeds…

Ljungberg joined West Ham United from the Gunners in 2007 but mustered only 28 games for the club before he was released in 2008.

Asked for his Player of the Year by Viaplay Sports, he aimed a little dig at his former club.

Ljungberg suggests West Ham don’t deserve a Player of the Year before naming Jarrod Bowen

Ljungberg was tasked with naming a Player of the Year from each Premier League team.

West Ham were up first and Ljungberg laughed at the suggestion before naming Jarrod Bowen as the man he thought worthy of that award.

While laughing, he said: “Do they deserve to get one? Bowen.”

Pretend you’re Nuno – what changes are you making ahead of Leeds? 👀

If anyone says keep the back five, I'll be shocked 😂

Bowen has had an interesting season. Clearly, the Irons would be lost without him but Bowen has been criticised by West Ham fans at times.

There is a school of thought that suggests the captaincy awarded to him back in 2024 has weighed him down, despite another productive season when looking at the cold numbers of it all.

Indeed, Bowen is on an alarming goal drought in the Premier League, having not scored since late January.

It’s easy to see why many would back him to win the Player of the Year award, but it’s not quite as clear cut as one may think.

The likes of Axel Disasi, Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville are also worth considering.

Regardless of whoever really stands as the winner of the award, all of the squad need to step up for one final time when West Ham play Leeds on Sunday.
