Exclusive: West Ham’s ability to lure Thomas Tuchel back to the Premier League should not be underestimated thanks to Tim Steidten influence.

That’s according to journalist Graeme Bailey speaking to Hammers News about West Ham’s potential replacements for David Moyes.

The manager’s future at West Ham is now very much in doubt beyond this summer.

Indeed Bailey revealed earlier this week that there is only one way Moyes will still be Hammers boss next season.

A plethora of managers have been linked. And the owners have reportedly handed responsibility to technical director Tim Steidten to line up a replacement.

They include names from abroad and England such as Graham Potter, Michael Carrick and Julen Lopetegui.

West Ham were recently linked with departing Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel.

Many have mocked the links as ‘pie in the sky’. But reports from Germany claim Tuchel, who has kept his house in London, very much wants to return to the Premier League.

Now experienced journalist Bailey, who has strong contacts across the game, has told Hammers News people should not underestimate Steidten’s pulling power after the Tuchel links.

And he has revealed that a Premier League boss is also in West Ham’s sights in the shape of Gary O’Neil.

“In a dream world he’d (Steidten) like Tuchel, who he’s close friends with, and some people would scoff as those types of links but West Ham are a huge club in London, 60,000 fans and they’ve got a squad that would appeal to a lot of people,” Bailey told Hammers News.

“West Ham have got some wonderful world class talent, Lucas Paqueta obviously I don’t think he’ll be with the club after the summer, but with the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez – West Ham don’t need massive, massive surgery to be pushing Champions League.

Gary O’Neil also in West Ham’s sights

“I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of fantasy that two or three very good signings and you could be pushing that top four realistically.

“You can only take so much (of Moyes’ style of football) and I think that the club will be looking for a manager who can improve that. With Steidten there’s going to be lots of names around Europe and we’ve seen the Tuchel link – who knows. I’ve heard a few more names and we’ll see over the coming weeks. It’s going to be fascinating.

“One name I have heard and I don’t think would leave his current role is someone like a Gary O’Neil whose stock is rising rapidly and playing the type of football (West Ham fans want). A former West Ham player and one of the bright young minds now in British football.

“His teams play some of the best football I’ve seen in recent years. He’s had both his teams playing wonderful football so he’d be an interesting one.

“West Ham have signed these players – like Kudus – to play a certain type of football which, ironically, doesn’t suit the incumbent manager. You could argue you’ve got so much talent in the squad that you’re going to win some games naturally.”
