Jarrod Bowen nearly joined Newcastle United before he moved to West Ham United from Hull City in January 2020.
That’s according to ex-Newcastle boss Steve Bruce who told the Die For Three Points podcast how much he wanted Bowen at St James’ Park.
Bowen is valued at around £70 million by West Ham. So the £22 million that we paid for him three years ago (The Guardian) now looks like tremendous value.

The 26-year-old right winger has bagged 32 goals and 24 assists in 129 games for the Hammers (Transfermarkt).
In spite of his fairly abject form so far this season, Bowen has still been a top-class player for David Moyes on the whole. He will undoubtedly find his best form once again soon.
Things could have been so different for Bowen though, had Mike Ashley not been in charge three years ago!
Newcastle could have singed Jarrod Bowen
It seems as though the 26-year-old would be a Newcastle player now, had the then Toon boss Steve Bruce received greater backing from Mike Ashley.
Bruce told Die For Three Points podcast how desperate he was to bring the attacker to St James’ Park from Hull City:
I watched him come through, great kid. I had him parked in the service station on the M1 waiting to see if we had the permission, to see if I could scramble the funds to make it happen but I couldn’t get the money together and he went to West Ham instead.
Thankfully the West Ham board backed David Moyes with the funds needed to sign Bowen.
He has been a great player for the Hammers.
And it’s nice to know that West Ham got one over Newcastle with the signing of Jarrod Bowen.
