Ex David Moyes target Brennan Johnson was at the double this afternoon to make the best of a bad situation for West Ham.

After thumping Nottingham Forest 4-0 at the London Stadium last week, West Ham looked to have turned a corner.

The win would surely breathe new life and hope into West Ham’s battle for Premier League survival?

Well all that good work was undone during a Hammers horror show in a 4-0 defeat at Brighton yesterday.

There were absolutely no positives to take from the pathetic surrender by Moyes’ side.

But if we are going to look for some, the saving grace was that other results were not too unkind on West Ham.

Everton and Wolves both lost in midweek.

Southampton got another fortunate win – but that came against Leicester to keep the Foxes in the relegation pack.

Leeds lost and Bouremouth lost in that last gasp five-thriller at Arsenal.

Wolves got a win against Spurs which is a blow but then all eyes turned to today’s clash between West Ham’s relegation rivals Forest and Everton.

Everton twice led in the match and Toffees win would have put them above West Ham.

But ex Moyes target Johnson was at the double to make the best of a bad situation for West Ham.

West Ham were heavily linked with Forest star Johnson over the last year. But he ended up staying with his hometown club after they were promoted against all odds.

And he twice pulled Forest level to ensure the game ended in a draw – a best case scenario for West Ham on a weekend to forget.

Any win for any of West Ham’s relegation rivals is extremely damaging. So the draw is the best result the Hammers could wish for in the circumstances.

It keeps Everton below the Irons and Forest within one win as the relegation battle promises to be the tightest for decades.

The problem with that is it could take at least 36 points – and as many as 38 – to secure safety this season.

Whether West Ham have got another five wins in them in their last 13 games is questionable given we only have six in 25 all season.

Especially as the Hammers still have to face Arsenal, Man City, Man United and Liverpool in those games.

But our rivals have tough fixtures too and West Ham can only hope there are more days like last week against Forest on the horizon and far less like that woeful display at the Amex.
