Every word David Moyes said on West Ham’s dismal 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa and it’s safe to say he’s not a happy man.
West Ham have been well beaten by Aston Villa 4-1 in the Premier League.
After a superb start to the season, West Ham’s performance unravelled in what was in many ways a return to the dark days of last season.
Aston Villa’s high line was begging to be exploited. But David Moyes lacked the tactical nous or bravery to drop Michail Antonio in order to try and do that.
After going 2-0 down early in the second half, the Hammers got themselves back in the game with a large slice of luck as Jarrod Bowen’s shot took a massive deflection.

West Ham huffed and puffed thereafter but Villa pounced to get a killer third and added a fourth to compound Moyes’ misery.
Here’s every word Moyes said on West Ham’s dismal 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa and it’s safe to say he’s not a happy man.
“Lots of things didn’t happen (that have contributed to West Ham’s good start to the season),” Moyes told Sky Sports.
“We weren’t as resolute defensively as we have been, harder to play against. But by the way we’re playing against a really good Aston Villa team at the moment.
“But nevertheless we didn’t do well in the final third today with opportunities to pick people out in the first half when we had quite a few chances and didn’t make anything count.
“We were narrowly 1-0 down at half-time and obviously we’re coming out in the second half hoping to get ourselves in the game and we give away a stupid penalty kick which didn’t help us. But credit to the players they got a goal back and we made a bit of a game of it at that time.

“What I would say (about the penalty) is that I don’t think Edi (Edson Alvarez) should go to ground, but I don’t think it was a penalty either. But you know, there you go.
“I think there was opportunities (for us) all game. I think any balls we played into the final third today were poor choice or not executed well enough or not got the right weight on the ball or never picked anybody out on cutbacks or crosses in the box when we got near it. So that was probably the biggest disappointment.
“There was lots of things that were actually ok. But ultimately then when you’re not scoring and it’s not quite your day then you make sure you don’t concede any goals and you’re hard to beat and be a bit ugly at the back if you have to be, but we were actually a bit nice to them and helped them.
“I see the players every day and I know the levels (required) and for us to challenge Aston Villas and the teams at the top you’re talking about, we’ve going to have to play really well and keep it up. Because I get a chance to see the players, they’re good players but as you can see today, if this is the levels we’re having to play at we’re going to have to improve greatly on what we done today.”
