David Moyes has delivered a 81-word response on what is arguably West Ham’s most important decision for a decade.
Earlier this week doubt was once again cast over the future of David Moyes at West Ham.
To those outside the Hammers sphere that may seem somewhat crazy given the Scot led West Ham to their first major trophy in 43 years back in June and a brilliant start to the new season since. Not to mention three consecutive European campaigns for the first time in the club’s history.
But to those inside the West Ham circle, it’s nothing new. There remains a section of fans who would prefer a more progressive, modern manager. The fact West Ham are doing so well right now means that particular narrative has been quietened for now.
There is a sense, though, that it could – and would – bubble to the surface quite quickly if the Hammers were to struggle for an extended spell.
But at the moment there is no sign of that, with Moyes’ new-look West Ham going great guns on all fronts.
The job the Scot has done since returning to the club in 2020 is nothing short of remarkable.

David Moyes delivers 81-word response on what is arguably West Ham’s most important decision for a decade
There are no guarantees the man who eventually follows in Moyes’ footsteps could do any better. But some wonder whether the right man, with the right ideas might be able to push things to another level in terms of both style and ambition.
Any question marks over Moyes’ future can of course be put to bed quite easily. By the club and the man himself.
His contract is up at the end of the season. So being offered – and signing – a new one would answer those questions.
It is nothing out of the ordinary at West Ham that a renewal has not been discussed yet. David Sullivan and co tend to leave such matters until the new year when it comes to managers. They’re not the types to hire and fire and they don’t make knee-jerk decisions or snap judgements on contracts either.
But where is Moyes’ head at? Well now we know.
Because Moyes has delivered a 81-word response on what is arguably West Ham’s most important decision for a decade.

‘See what happens’
When asked about his contract situation Moyes was typically honest and said it is not something that overly concerns him right now.
But he has made it clear he intends to manage as long as he can. And he insists he still feels young at 60.
“I would expect so (to continue for another seven years), I’m young enough!” Moyes said, as reported by the likes of The Daily Mail.
‘I’m looking forward to working as long as I can, but I’ll also make a decision when I think it’s right to hang up my stopwatch and whistle.
“At the moment I’m fine. I’m only focused on the team doing well, keeping us going and keeping the focus on that. I’m sure there’ll be a time that comes when we’ll discuss it but I’m happy to go along just now and see what happens.”
Those last three words are key: ‘see what happens’.
With Tim Steidten pulling the strings on recruitment – albeit with Moyes having ultimate power of veto – it will be interesting to see if the manager has the appetite to continue beyond this season.
The longer that contract offer or commitment remains in the desk drawer, the louder the noise around it will become.
