A hugely surprising claim has just emerged about West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez.
He proved last season that he was the glue that held the West Ham team together, what with his ability to receive the ball from his defenders in tight spaces and his never-say-die attitude when defending.
Edson Alvarez is currently injured and hasn’t been involved during West Ham‘s pre-season campaign, after the Hammers midfielder left he pitch in tears when he picked up a hamstring strain whilst playing for Mexico in June.
Julen Lopetegui will be desperate to have the Mexican back playing – his absence for our opening day clash with Aston Villa really hurt us.
Recovery times for hamstring injuries can vary from three weeks to anything like four months, depending on the severity of the tear.
So it remains to be seen just how much action the 26-year-old is forced to miss for the Hammers.
Alvarez moved to the London Stadium from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer of 2023 for around £32 million (Goal).
But will he be around for much longer?

Lopetegui surely has plans to play Alvarez in a double pivot alongside Guido Rodriguez this season.
Those two playing alongside one another will form a really solid base to the Hammers’ midfield.
However, the West Ham manager seemingly could have a problem regarding Alvarez during the final week of the transfer window.
And that’s not because the 26-year-old wants to leave or the club are desperately trying to move him on.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, West Ham view Alvarez as a key player and don’t won’t to sell him.
However, the East London outfit are prepared to listen to ‘exceptional’ offers for the 26-year-old midfielder.
Alvarez to leave or stay
I have no doubts that he will remain at the London Stadium beyond the end of the current transfer window.
However, we may well find it hard to keep him at the club after the 2024/25 season has finished.
That said, should an ‘exceptional’ offer come in during the final week of the current window, the former Ajax man will be off, I truly believe that.
Just three months after joining West Ham in October last year, Alvarez made the staggering admission that he’s ‘always open’ to moving to Bayern Munich, after speculation emerged regarding the Bundesliga club’s interest in signing him.
That didn’t sit right with me then, and now I feel like these latest claims regarding his future are being instigated by his agent.
I predict that Edson Alvarez will remain with West Ham this season, but then leave us in the summer of 2025.
