This week reliable West Ham insider ExWHUemployee dropped an exciting hint over the club’s kit plans for next season.

West Ham fans love to see a bit of effort made with their kits whether they respect tradition, go retro or try to be original.

Umbro kits for 125th anniversary season have been a success

Umbro’s West Ham kits for this, the club’s 125th anniversary season, have gone down well.

Fans have been happy with the home strip and it is safe to say they – and the players – love the black third kit.

The sky blue and claret striped away kit has divided opinion but it has been a job well done overall by Umbro this year.

According to ExWHUemployee on The West Ham Way podcast, the new kits will have a ‘classic retro’ vibe and are going to be fantastic.

“They are based on some classic retro designs and I’ve told you (podcast co-host Dave Walker) which ones they are and you seem quite excited by that (‘They sound amazing’ Walker interjects to say),” Ex said on TWHW podcast (May 5th).

Have West Ham dropped a hint over 2021/22 kits after insider tease?

“As I was when I first heard them I was like ‘yea that’s what I would like as well’…

“They’re based on some really quality retro kits that we’ve had in the past.”

So have West Ham just dropped a hint over what retro kits next season’s strip could be based on with a new addition to the club’s store?

It could simply be a case of us putting two and two together and making five.

But should we read anything into the fact that West Ham last week released remakes of the 1992/93 Bukhta home and away shirts on the club shop?

Modelled by Manuel Lanzini and David Martin, the shirts proved hugely popular and sold out so fast they have already disappeared from the online store.

1992/93 remakes prove popular with fans – could they be inspiration for new ‘classic retro’ kits?

West Ham fans will remember the away shirt in particular – often referred to as the ‘Argentina’ shirt with the blue and white strips of that famous kit.

The Hammers have a few retro remakes on the club store.

So it could just be a coincidence.

But if the fan reaction to snaffling up all the new releases is anything to go by, a reinvention of those kits would prove very popular indeed.

ExWHUemployee said he would give more details on the 2021/22 kits in future podcasts.

So we will find out one way or another soon enough.

Let’s just hope whatever the kit looks like it has that Champions League emblem on the sleeve!
