West Ham United captain Declan Rice has torn into Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho over his comments before the derby on Sunday.
West Ham came out 2-1 winners over their bitter rivals Tottenham thanks to goals from Michail Antonio and Jesse Lingard.
The win moved West Ham back into fourth place in the Premier League table and nine points ahead of Spurs.
West Ham ram Mourinho’s words back down his throat
Before the game Tottenham boss Mourinho suggested David Moyes’s side will fall down the league during the final third of the season (Tottenham’s official Youtube channel).
The Portuguese – who has upset his own players and fans with his negative tactics this season – also suggested West Ham have been lucky and are benefiting from playing less games than other clubs in the European mix.
The comments infuriated West Ham fans who labelled Mourinho ‘classless and clueless’.
Now Hammers matchday skipper Rice has hit out at Mourinho, saying he did West Ham’s teamtalk for them (talkSPORT).
Hammers hero Declan says Jose did Moyes’s team talk for him
“I read during the week that Mourinho said that ‘at the end of the season there’ll be no comparison with where Spurs are going to be compared to West Ham and we’re going to overtake them’,” Rice said on talkSPORT.
“I think he said that on the Spurs YouTube channel or something like that.
“You read that as players and you think ‘Yea that’s going to make me go out there today and prove you wrong’ you know what I mean?
‘All the lads knew it… that was one of the reasons’
“You’re going to want to go out there and put on an even better performance.
“I think all the lads knew that (about Mourinho’s comments) and we wanted to go out there yesterday and really beat Spurs so that’s one of the reasons as well.”
It is safe to say West Ham had the last laugh over Jose here.
Let’s hope that is also the case come the end of the season too.
