The Hammers lost their first two games of the season – at home to Newcastle and away to Arsenal.

And after our struggles last term, the West Ham fans began to fear the worse.

Since then, however, David Moyes’s men have been superb.

Moyes has guided his Hammers team to 39 points from our last 21 games. That’s Champions League form.

And if we keep up that average of 1.86 points per game between now and the end of the season, the top four will certainly be within reach.

Declan Rice opens up on West Ham improvement

It really has been quite the turnaround from West Ham.

And Declan Rice lifted the lid on how the Hammers players went about bouncing back from their early season disappointments, when speaking on BBC Sport last night (Tuesday February 9th, 19:10):

“We went into the season having just survived relegation. The first game of the season against Newcastle we lost that, then we lost at Arsenal. We were thinking this could be another season like that again. We said, ‘look, we need to up our performances, this is West Ham, this is a massive club, we’ve got some quality players, let’s start putting in some performances’.”

Moyes clearly deserves huge credit for the manner in which he has transformed West Ham as a football club.

The players do as well. Considering how small our squad is, it really has been a herculean effort from the West Ham players.

We are currently sitting in sixth spot in the Premier League table just one point adrift of fourth place. Let’s just enjoy it while we can.

It has been one hell of a ride this season. Hopefully Moyes’s key players remain fit between now and May. And if that happens, then who knows what we can achieve?
