Declan Rice returned to West Ham United last night for the first time since his £105 million summer move to Arsenal.

West Ham sold Declan Rice to Arsenal for the massive fee after he refused to sign a new long-term deal with the the Hammers, and after the match finished he went to every corner of the London Stadium to applaud the home fans.

Vladimir Coufal shared how he visited the West Ham dressing room as well to see all of his old teammates, whilst David Moyes was seen embracing the 24-year-old midfielder inside the stadium, before the Carabao Cup clash kicked off.

Dec would have fancied his chances of leaving his old home with a win last night, but it was the Hammers who had the last laugh in the end.

We were quite simply brilliant on the night, and ended up worthy 3-1 winners against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. What did Rice think of the reception that he received from the home fans though?

Dec was clearly happy to be back at the London Stadium, seeing all the old faces that made the Hammers feel like home during his eight-year stay at the club.

Rice took to his official Instagram account to thank the Hammers fans for the welcome that he received:

Those were some really nice words from Rice in all fairness to him.

The truth of the matter though is that the reception he received at the London Stadium last night was mixed.

There were people who clapped him and some who booed him. I think that the latter was the correct way to go. Sure, he was absolutely brilliant for us, but he’s a rival player now, and he deserves exactly the same treatment as any other player who represents a rival receives.

Declan Rice had a fantastic career with West Ham, and still deserves respect from us after he led us to our first major trophy since 1980 last season.

However, he’s not our player any more and should be treated as such every single time the Hammers meet the Gunners.
