Declan Rice makes his feelings clear on Daniel Kretinsky arrival at West Ham after press feast on Champions League comments.

Big players make big headlines and that is certainly the case for West Ham star Rice.

There has been a constant stream of stories linking Rice with a move away from West Ham for the last 18 months.

Hammers fans are well used to it but no less sick of hearing the same tired speculation over and over again.

David Moyes made it clear after the transfer window closed that clubs had missed out on a £100 million bargain with Rice as his valuation of the midfielder increases with every brilliant display for West Ham and England.

It was inevitable then that when Rice spoke of his ambition to play Champions League football this week many sites conveniently omitted that he stated he wants to play it WITH West Ham.

Hopes that the Hammers can seriously challenge to do just that have increased following the arrival of Czech billionaire Kretinsky at West Ham.

Kretinsky has impressed fans with his mission statement for the Hammers which is focused on evolution not revolution.

Now speaking to The Evening Standard, Rice has made his feelings clear on Kretinsky’s arrival at West Ham.

And he believes the man with £700m to use on investments alone each year could help him and the Hammers realise that ambition.

“Yeah,” Rice told The Evening Standard when asked if Kretinsky’s arrival can help the club match his ambition.

“Hopefully the club can get in the Champions League and my ambition, of course, is that I want to play in the Champions League as well.

“Hopefully the club can keep pushing.”

Going into the game against Brighton, West Ham are in one of those coveted Champions League spots they missed out on by a solitary win last season.

Let’s hope the Hammers can rediscover their momentum and go one better this time around.

Failing that Moyes’s side also have another possible route to Europe’s top table, by winning the Europa League.

And after sailing through the group stages with a game to spare, West Ham are just three ties from the final.
