David Sullivan still calling the shots as West Ham make official contact to sign Brazilian striker

West Ham United have apparently made an official move to sign a striker, but is it David Sullivan who is really calling the shots?

Graham Potter took over as the new West Ham head coach last month, and he brought his recruitment guru Kyle Macaulay to the London Stadium with him.

Potter and Macaulay allegedly have grand plans for a big squad revamp at West Ham this summer.

However, will David Sullivan actually step back and allow them to get on with it?

With Macaulay now at the club though, many West Ham fans expect the 38-year-old to oversee a more exciting approach to transfers.

That said, the latest news hints that that might not be the case.

West Ham make official contact to sign Yuri Alberto

Corinthians hitman Yuri Alberto is firmly on West Ham’s radar, and the club have now made official contact with the 23-year-old Brazilian striker’s agents, according to a report from Calciomercato.it.

The Hammers were said to be close to signing Yuri Alberto in January for around £20 million.

However, he remained with Corinthians in the end.

In fact, it was actually claimed that we have been trying to sign him since the summer of 2022.

Now, I’m no conspiracy theorist, but the fact that he’s been on our radar since tells me that he’s a David Sullivan target, rather than a Macaulay or Potter one.

It certainly wouldn’t be out of character for Sullivan to meddle in transfers would it now!

Alberto is far from clinical, and I’m not convinced one little bit that he’s the man we need at West Ham.

Yuri Alberto’s goalscoring record

The 24-year-old has spent the vast majority of his career playing in Brazil, aside from just 15 games in Russia with Zenit St Petersburg.

In 268 games for Corinthians, Internacional and Santos, Alberto has bagged just 94 goals.

Meanwhile, he racked up only six goals during his time with Zenit (Transfermarkt).

That’s a really poor record, given the standard of football he has played throughout his career.

Yuri Alberto definitely isn’t the quickest, and the fact that he has no Premier League experience should make signing him an instant no-no for West Ham.

I really hope that David Sullivan isn’t leading the charge when it comes to transfers.
