Getting the striker signing spot on in the January transfer window will be crucial for West Ham United.

Graham Potter will surely realise that he cannot afford to exit the January window without having brought a proven striker to West Ham.

Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug are both out injured, and won’t be returning to action anytime soon.

West Ham made a £57 million bid for Jhon Duran – one that was swiftly rejected by Aston Villa.

So it was very much a case of going back to the drawing board for the Hammers.

There are plenty of strikers out there who are available and would take us to another level – Jonathan. David, Stefanos Tzimas and Evan Ferguson for example.

Whatever happens, Potter needs to bring a top-class centre-forward to the London Stadium this month.

However, our latest alleged target is far from an inspiring one.

The Hammers transfer team are clearly ramping up their interest in bringing a proven centre-forward to the club this month.

The second half of the season will be a real struggle without more firepower up front.

And Potter clearly realises that. However, whether the striker he’s allegedly targeting is the right man is debatable.

Yuri Alberto of Brazilian side Corinthians is said to be firmly on the Hammers’ transfer radar in the January window.

West Ham are allegedly preparing to make a £20 million offer for the 24-year-old striker.

Corinthians don’t actually want to sell the Brazilian hitman, but would for that kind of money according to Tim Vickery (Sky Sports Transfer Talk at 12.33pm).

Alberto has been decent out in his homeland, but is he the man we should be signing this winter?

I think there are plenty of better options out there available.

The 24-year-old has spent the vast majority of his career playing in Brazil, aside from just 15 games in Russia with Zenit St Petersburg.

In 271 games for Corinthians, Internacional and Santos, Alberto has bagged just 87 goals.

Meanwhile, he racked up only six goals during his time with Zenit (Transfermarkt).

In my opinion, that record is really poor, given the standard of the leagues he has played in throughout his career.

Yes, Yuri Alberto has decent pace, but I just feel like he will struggle to adapt to Premier League football quickly.

West Ham need to sign a striker for the here and now in the January window. We need someone to make an instant impact.

And unfortunately, the Corinthians striker isn’t the man for the job in my opinion.
