David Moyes has slammed what West Ham star Danny Ings did after coming on and making an instant impact for the wrong team in the Man City defeat.

It is fair to say things have not worked out at all well for Danny Ings at West Ham since his January move.

Many believed the striker was just what West Ham had been missing – a ruthless finisher in the box.

The trouble is the Hammers simply aren’t a team that create chances in the box. And the truth is they never really have been under David Moyes.

The £15m man has struggled to adapt to the system at West Ham.

Ings struggling in Moyes system

He is largely anonymous in games when he does get on the pitch.

And in West Ham’s latest defeat at Manchester City it was more of the same. Only this time he helped create a killer goal – for the opposition.

West Ham were uncharacteristically undone from a set-piece early in the second half after a stubborn resistance say the scores level at the break against champions elect Man City.

Michail Antonio had worked his socks off for the team and was giving the Man City defence something to think about.

On 67 minutes Moyes brought Ings on for Antonio with important games against Man United and AZ Alkmaar looming large.

A couple of minutes later it was 2-0.

Ings stupidly gave the ball away with his first touch to set City on the counter attack as Erling Haaland scored a second to break the Premier League record for the most goals in a season – 35 – and his 51st overall.

It killed the game dead with 20 minutes remaining and came just as West Ham were showing some intent to get back in the match.

It was a really poor touch from Ings with disastrous consequences. And it would be one of only four or five touches he would get – two of which were from restarts.

The decisive moment left West Ham’s manager exasperated.

Moyes has slammed what West Ham star Ings did after coming on and making an instant impact for the wrong team in the Man City defeat.

“We give the ball away for the second goal terribly on the halfway line,” Moyes said after the game.

“And it frees up Haaland to get a run through. Prior to that we’d kept him really, really quiet in the game. That was disappointing.”
