David Moyes shares baffling theory on why West Ham have conceded 70 Premier League goals this term

West Ham United manager David Moyes came out with quite possibly his strangest comments yet yesterday afternoon, regarding why his side have conceded so many goals.

David Moyes has overseen a shockingly bad 2024, and his West Ham team have conceded a ridiculous amount of goals.

Since January 1st, the Hammers have taken just 16 points from 17 games – the fourth lowest tally in the Premier League.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise at all that the likes of Julen Lopetegui and Ruben Amorim are apparently being lined up to replace Moyes.

West Ham have lost 6-0 to Arsenal, 5-0 to Fulham, 5-2 to Crystal Palace and now 5-0 to Chelsea over the past 10 weeks – utterly pathetic and embarrassing from the players and Moyes.

We’ve conceded 70 goals in the Premier League this season – 70! Only the bottom three teams have conceded more.

What an awful tally for the club, especially when considering the fact that Moyes prides himself on being a defensive manager!

Perhaps sitting back and soaking up pressure all game long is a really bad tactic that will always lead to conceding goals – who would have thought it!

Moyes has theory on West Ham Premier League goals conceded tally

What a disastrous state we’re in right now as a club.

We are managed by a man who is out of his depth in the modern game, and most of the players aren’t up to it either.

Our defence is an absolute shambles right now, but why? What’s the root cause of the issue?

Moyes’s answer to that question absolutely stunned me.

A reporter asked the Hammers boss why his side have been so poor defensively this season, as quoted by Hayters TV:

“Declan Rice”, Moyes responded.

Wow, just wow. It’s not like you’re a professional football manager or anything Dave is it! It’s not like you get paid to rebuild the team when we lose a key player, and backed extremely well financially to do so by the way!

West Ham sold Declan Rice and replaced him with Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse. Moyes signed off on those deals, so the fact he’s moaning about it now is utterly bizarre.

Look how Brighton move on when they lose their best players, or teams abroad like Sporting or Ajax.

It seems to me like the Scot has a serious issue with the fact that he is not immortalised at West Ham, nor will he go down as a club legend in most fans’ eyes.

He clearly feels like the Hammers supporters should be far more grateful to him for what he’s done at the London Stadium over the past four years or so, and he took a back-handed dig at us once again after the Chelsea defeat yesterday.

The thing is, he’s done at the London Stadium. He has performed terribly in his role as manager this season.

The amount of goals West Ham have conceded in the league this season is evidence of just how out of his depth he is in the modern game now.
