Ghana manager Chris Hughton has raved about Mohammed Kudus, and offered some advice to West Ham United boss David Moyes in the process.
West Ham boss David Moyes brought Mohammed Kudus to the London Stadium from Ajax for around £38 million in the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old attacker looks like a real star already for the Hammers, and Moyes recently suggested that he has all of the attributes needed to play as a central striker.
However, Kudus has definitely looked at his best when either deployed centrally, or drifting inside from the right-hand flank.
Moyes needs to start the Ghana international in every single game as far as I’m concerned – he’s that good.
And Ghana boss Chris Hughton has made it very clear to the Scot how he needs to utilise the former Ajax star…

David Moyes told in no uncertain terms how to get the best out of Mohammed Kudus
Hughton took over as Ghana manager in February of this year, so he’s had plenty of experience in managing the 23-year-old Hammers star.
And he shared where he believes Kudus’s best position is, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“I think that Kudus will be good for David and David will definitely be good for him, and I hope in the end it’s very good for West Ham. What Mohammed is, is a talented player. I think what he has got in his game, and I think probably different managers will see it different ways, is that he is a player who can play in a few different positions. Predominately for us (Ghana), he is played either in that number ten role or on that right-hand side. Looking at his performances for West Ham, I think that’s the two positions he’s played at.”
Hughton went on to say:
“His development will be depend on any other positions he could play in. Could he play as a number nine? I see him more as a ten or an inverted player on that right-hand side. He has really good ability and is strong. When you look at him he has strong legs, fairly muscular, so he is able to use his body, certainly in tight areas, to manoeuvre past players or get out of tight situations, and of course the asset he has got is he is a player who can score goals.”
I think Kudus will end up playing as a number 10 for the Hammers. He won’t be deployed out on the right wing consistently with Jarrod Bowen at the club.
When Moyes signs a proper striker, Bowen will return to his best position out on the right, meaning that Kudus should then be deployed as a number 10.
Lucas Paqueta can then play either or the left or in the middle alongside the 23-year-old Ghanaian, with Said Benrahma operating on the left wing.
Kudus possesses all of the attributes needed to play just in behind the main striker, what with his tight ball control, exemplary technical ability and his keen eye for a goal and a killer pass.
David Moyes absolutely has to get the best out of Mohammed Kudus, if he is to guide his side to a successful 2023/24 campaign. And now he knows exactly how to do that after Chris Hughton’s comments.
