David Moyes has made a highly unusual claim about the reason for the West Ham United win over Wolves on Sunday.

Lucas Paqueta’s dazzling display of three assists, Mohammed Kudus continuing his brilliant form with a brace and Jarrod Bowen being on fire.

They are just three of the reasons behind West Ham’s 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

So much focus has been on David Moyes and his tactics and approach. But the Hammers started the Wolves game as they did the Freiburg clash, on the front foot, pressing and playing at a higher tempo.

Moyes then can surely take a huge slice of the credit for West Ham’s latest win – their eighth in the last 11 in all competitions.

Moyes makes highly unusual claim about reason for win

Not a bit of it, though. Whatever your view or stance is about Moyes, the honest Scot is never seeking or claiming credit or vindication.

If the team wins or gets a positive result he almost always credits the players. He’s no Sam Allardyce – who used to publicly bask in his own tactical nous and triumphs.

Now Moyes has made a highly unusual claim about the reason for the West Ham win over Wolves.

And it shows exactly what kind of manager and person he is.

Because the Hammers boss has credited West Ham’s opposition analysis team behind the scenes for the crucial role they played.

Moyes revealed West Ham’s backroom team who analysed Wolves, pointed out that goalkeeper Dan Bentley had a weakness at his near post. And they told the manager West Ham’s players should be encouraged to aim for it when shooting.

Expert analysts

“I can’t take the credit for the homework done by our analysts (that Kudus had been told to aim inside the near post when cutting inside and shooting),” Moyes told West Ham’s website.

“We are always looking for things that might help us and we thought shooting at the near post might give us a chance. We got two really good shots of from Mo, and Jarrod’s was a really good finish as well. The forward boys today produced.”

Maybe it comes with being so comfortable in his own skin with well over 1,000 games under his belt as a manager, but to hear a Premier League boss crediting his analysis team is as rare as it is refreshing.

Moyes is renowned for being a workaholic and he works his staff and players just as hard too.

But he’s also not afraid to shower them with praise when they earn it rather than take it for himself.
