West Ham boss David Moyes has made slightly concerning comments about the West Ham trio suffering with illness ahead of the Manchester United clash.

David Moyes‘s West Ham side play host to Manchester United at the London Stadium on Sunday evening, with a point at the very least an absolute must if we are to avoid relegation this season.

Last time out, the Hammers lost 3-0 to Manchester City without Declan Rice, Nayef Aguerd and Tomas Soucek who all missed the match through illness.

West Ham really missed Rice and it must be said that we were more vulnerable from set-pieces without Aguerd and Soucek as well.

Hopefully all three players will be back for Sunday’s game but Moyes is far from certain that that will indeed be the case…

West Ham could still be missing key players for Manchester United clash

The 60-year-old Hammers boss addressed the media yesterday after our 3-0 defeat at the Etihad against Manchester City. He discussed Rice, Soucek and Aguerd after they all missed out against the Premier League leaders.

He explained how food poisoning could have been a problem for two of the three players whilst the other may have a virus.

Moyes told reporters how the missing trio are far from certain to be ready in time for Sunday’s clash with Man United, as quoted by Football.London:

“I have got to hope that they are, two of them we are not sure if it is maybe a bit of food poisoning that they have maybe picked up at the training ground or whether it was at the hotel and one them we think has got a virus. I’m not a doctor, I don’t know if antibiotics can fix it that quickly or how you work it, I’m not quite sure. Hopefully, they will have a chance for the weekend.”

Whilst Moyes is hopeful, not having Rice, Soucek or Aguerd available for the game against Manchester United on Sunday would be a massive blow for West Ham.

If they were all that ill on Wednesday, they surely would not have trained yesterday and maybe not today either. It will be interesting to keep an eye on Moyes’s press conference later for an update.

We have to get some kind of result against Manchester United, and having Rice available for the match at the very least will be pivotal to our hopes of achieving just that.
