David Moyes has made a big claim about West Ham’s style of play that may surprise media and supporters alike.

It was not that long ago David Moyes was said to be clinging on to his job as West Ham manager.

The Hammers were being linked with all and sundry including the likes of Graham Potter, Brendan Rodgers, Xabi Alonso and Ange Postecoglou.

Fast forward a few months and West Ham have won their first trophy in 43 years – securing a third consecutive season of European football for the first time in the club’s history – and have made an excellent start to the new Premier League season.

All against the backdrop of what is turning out to be – on paper at least – one of West Ham’s best ever transfer windows despite losing talisman Declan Rice.

West Ham’s style driving debate in league full of Pep Guardiola disciples

Despite West Ham’s superb end to last season and start to this term, some remain unhappy with the approach of Moyes in a league full of Pep Guardiola disciples playing possession football.

West Ham’s style of play and lack of possession has also been ridiculed by analysts, pundits and even some opposition managers.

The Hammers boss was also not helped by comments from Rice which have unintentionally painted him as something of a football dinosaur.

Moyes admitted he tried and failed to change West Ham’s style last season – almost costing the club its Premier League status.

Jarrd Bowen recently defended Moyes from criticism over his style and approach.

There is an inference from some sections of the media and fanbase that Moyes does not care what people think about how West Ham play.

But those who believe the Scot is pig-headed in that regard – like ex Hammers boss Sam Allardyce was – need to think again.

Because Moyes has made a big claim about West Ham’s style of play that may surprise media and supporters alike.

‘Yea, we do care!’

Speaking in his latest press conference, Moyes insists he DOES care what people think about West Ham’s style of play.

“Yea we do care (what people think of how we play),” Moyes said in his presser.

“We want our teams to be exciting, we want them to play well. But ultimately we want to win and we want to get good results…

“We’re looking forward to trying to have more of the ball, that’s what we’re planning to do – trying to get more of the ball in the games.

“But while we can’t then we’re going to make sure that we’re really hard to beat and continue trying to win games no matter, hook or by crook, how that happens.”

Last week Moyes said he specifically signed one player in the summer to help West Ham play a more expansive style.
