David Moyes has had a pop at Sky Sports over their line of questioning and says smaller clubs like West Ham are being ignored.

West Ham boss David Moyes does not suffer fools gladly and has a reputation for being spiky with the press at times.

If the Hammers manager feels a reporter has not done their research, is fishing for a specific angle about something or being disingenuous he’ll often call it out or clam up.

And the Scot has lived up to his reputation in his latest West Ham press conference.

VAR has – sadly – dominated not only football conversation but the entire landscape perhaps more than ever this season.

It’s VAR-cical for West Ham

West Ham have officially been one of the teams worst affected by video technology since its introduction in the Premier League.

Indeed the Hammers paid a heavy price due to VAR processes when a clear offside was not given against Brentford as assistant refs are instructed to keep their flags down. Emerson was therefore forced to make a tackle and Brentford ended up scoring during the attack from the resulting throw-in.

Before that West Ham were also wronged when Newcastle scored from a free-kick given against them when Lucas Paqueta had in fact been fouled.

There have been several high profile VAR mistakes and controversial incidents this season involving the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

Moyes has a pop at Sky Sports over questioning

And there has been a big focus on how certain managers are reacting to VAR and referees in post-match interviews.

Now Moyes has had a pop at Sky Sports over their line of questioning and says smaller clubs like West Ham are being ignored.

The Hammers boss turned on Sky Sports when asked his opinions on VAR. He accused the media outlet of seeking out and revelling in the controversy even though it gets managers in trouble.

And he says those in charge of VAR only seem interested in what the so-called big clubs think of it.

‘Maybe that’s what you want’

“When we’re putting our opinions over, they’re not getting a lot of clout at the other end,” Moyes said in his latest press conference.

“There have been a couple of incidents have been highlighted but it’s mainly been the top clubs, as if it doesn’t happen to the other clubs. I think we’re all pretty disappointed with what we’re getting back.

“Managers will be fined for speaking out of turn. I can get fined. We’re being asked within 20 minutes after games about things that can get us fined and in trouble.

“I would ask Sky to respect the managers and not put them in those positions. Managers have to be defensive, sit back and not share our true feelings because we’re asked questions where we know we’re going to be fined if we speak out.

“If you want honest opinions, you need to take that up with others. Now and again you’ll get outbursts and maybe that’s what you want…”

Well said that man.
