Crysencio Summerville’s injury absence has extended into its third game as West Ham United play Leeds in the FA Cup.

Summerville suffered a calf injury against Brentford in the fifth round of the FA Cup and subsequently missed West Ham’s Premier League outings against Manchester City and Aston Villa.

Should be strong enough to progress while resting key players for Wolves? 🤔

While Summerville’s calf injury isn’t deemed to be too serious, the Dutchman is a hugely important player and the prospect of playing without him for much longer is a serious concern here in east London.

Sadly for head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, that’s exactly what will happen as West Ham play Summerville’s former club Leeds in an FA Cup quarter-final.

Summerville misses West Ham United against Leeds

Summerville was always a doubt for the Leeds game and Sunday’s team sheet confirmed it.

The former Leeds star was not named in the starting lineup or on the bench for the game.

It remains to be seen if he can feature in next week’s six-pointer against Wolves.

If West Ham do not beat the Premier League’s bottom side, it’s almost impossible to see them staying up this season.

Summerville reportedly back in West Ham training

There may be some good news on the horizon, however.

According to the excellent ExWHUEmployee, Summerville has been back in training this week.

That might suggest that his omission from the squad is to keep him fresh for the Wolves game, which feels like a wise decision.

It’s not that West Ham can tank their FA Cup campaign, just that Summerville’s importance is such that any further setbacks could prove fatal in their bid for Premier League survival.

Having him back for the Wolves game would be a major boost for the club, with three points there being enough to take them out of the relegation zone for a few hours at least.
