Brutal Graeme Souness agrees with West Ham fans over David Moyes as he delivered a cutting verdict on his fellow Scot.

West Ham supporters know what the media are waiting for now.

From the moment the Hammers confirmed they will be parting ways with David Moyes, sections of the media are lying in wait with the words ‘I told you so’.

West Ham fans who have been calling for Moyes to be replaced have been repeatedly warned – ad nauseum – by the press, pundits and journalists to be ‘careful what they wish for’.

As far as many are concerned Moyes is as good as it can ever get for West Ham.

And woe betide any Hammers supporter who dares commit the heinous crime of wanting to watch a more attacking brand of football whilst getting results.

We’ve never had that before if you listen to some of the tired old garbage lazily bandied around as punditry and journalism of late. If that’s the case someone had better tell Slaven Bilic, Alan Pardew, Harry Redknapp John Lyall and Ron Greenwood.

It’s ok for Spurs, Villa, Newcastle, Brighton, Palace and even little Bournemouth to have both.

But West Ham? Apparently not.

Be careful what you wish for

The ‘be careful what you wish for’ brigade is large in number.

Even the likes of West Ham legend Julian Dicks has signed up to the club.

It is a phrase that is like a red rag to a bull for many Hammers fans.

Supporters fully appreciate the tremendous job Moyes has done at the London Stadium over two spells.

Make no mistake about that.

It was there for all to see when the Scot got the send off he deserved before, during and after the 3-1 win over Luton at the weekend.

West Ham fans have countered the great Moyes debate by asking one very simple question.

If Moyes is so irreplaceably brilliant and coveted then which clubs will be queueing up for him when he leaves West Ham?

Brutal Souness agrees with fans over Moyes

Hammers News suggested Scottish giants Celtic – the club where Moyes started his playing career – might be his only top option.

The reaction from Celtic fans to that was one of utter indignance. So much so it even sparked a furious phone-in hosted by a Scottish newspaper.

When Moyes’ fellow Scot Graeme Souness appeared on the radio today to discuss, among other things, Moyes’ West Ham departure, many could be forgiven for thinking he would be another ‘careful what you wish for’ merchant.

Especially as he appeared alongside talkSPORT host Jim White, who has been banging the Moyes drum for some time.

But many supporters may be pleasantly surprised.

Because brutal Souness agrees with West Ham fans over Moyes.

He has flipped the entire Moyes debate on its head and says West Ham are as good as it gets for the departing boss.

‘It doesn’t get better than West Ham for Moyes’

Just as West Ham fans have been trying to tell people for some time.

“So he was offered it (a new contract) and then it was withdrawn?

“I don’t think David Moyes would have wanted to leave West Ham.

“Because I don’t think he gets a better job than West Ham.

“And I would point to that, whether it was offered and retracted (as proof the decision was not his).

“You know then the sporting director (Tim Steidten) gets banned (by Moyes) from the training ground and it all went a bit pear-shaped and messy. Unnecessarily.”
