Blockbuster West Ham move to sign 'unbelievable' colossus Niakhate for £8m on the cards

West Ham United are allegedly keen to sign towering Mainz centre-back Moussa Niakhate in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from L’Equipe who claim that the Hammers could face competition from Nottingham Forest and Everton for the giant centre-back’s signature this summer.

Bringing a central defender to the London Stadium is obviously one of the main priorities for West Ham boss David Moyes in the summer transfer window.

It appears as though Nayef Aguerd is closing in on a move to the London Stadium according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

It could be argued that we need to sign another central defender, however. Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson are 34 and 32 respectively whilst Issa Diop has been heavily linked with a summer exit from the Hammers (Area Napoli).

And it appears as though Moyes has his eye on someone in particular…

West Ham eye Niakhate swoop

According to a report from L’Equipe, the Hammers are in a three-way battle to sign the Mainz ace, alongside Everton and Nottingham Forest.

We believe that Niakhate would be a fine addition for West Ham, irregardless of whether we sign Aguerd or not.

And BILD claim that the centre-back is keen to move to the Premier League this summer.

The Telegraph reckon that the Frenchman could be available for around £8 million in the summer. That’s great value in our book.

The 6ft 3in Niakhate was outstanding for Mainz last season.

In 30 Bundesliga games, Niakhate has scored three goals. During those appearances, the 26-year-old averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per match. He also won two aerial duels on average per game (Who Scored).

Niakhate made 45 passes on average per match and recorded a completion rate of 78.5% (Who Scored).

He has been described as an unbelievable defender by the official website of the Bundesliga.

The 26-year-old can also play at left-back, so that will obviously appeal to David Moyes.

West Ham signing Niakhate for just £8 million this summer would have to go down as sensational business.
