West Ham United are prepared to pay £12.7 million for Manchester City star Sergio Gomez, and now there has been a big twist.
The Hammers have been linked with a move to sign the 23-year-old Man City left-back already this summer, and it was claimed that he was actually open to the idea of joining the Hammers.
Good news right? Correct – the Spaniard is an exceptionally talented player who has been incredibly unfortunate not to play more regularly under Pep Guardiola.
West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui is desperately trying to bolster his squad before the start of the new season.
He has already signed Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham, and the addition of a new left-back may well be next up.
With Emerson Palmieri being linked with a move back to Italy to join Roma, bringing someone like Gomez to the London Stadium would be a very smart move.
The Manchester City star needs to move away from Man City this summer, in order to get more regular first-team football.
So could the London Stadium be his next destination?
Big Sergio Gomez to West Ham twist emerges
Signing a left-back may well not be right at the top of Lopetegui’s wish-list this summer, but I think it’s more of a necessity than people think.
Aside from a striker and a centre-back, I believe the addition of a new left-back should be one of the West Ham manager’s main priorities.

That’s regardless of whether Emerson stays at the London Stadium or leaves this summer.
It seems like Lopetegui agrees with that notion, with a move for Sergio Gomez in the pipeline…
Mundo Deportivo claim that West Ham are prepared to pay £12.7 million to prise Gomez away from the Etihad this summer – a fee that Manchester City would accept.
However, the Man City star is said to be holding out for a move to Real Sociedad instead.
The latest claim is a big twist after it was suggested that the Manchester City man was previously keen on a Hammers switch.
That’s a real shame because Gomez, 23, would be an exceptional addition to Lopetegui’s ranks at the London Stadium.
The Spaniard possesses exceptional technical ability, as you would expect from anyone who plays under Guardiola.
He is absolutely rapid and has incredible stamina. He could play further up the pitch if need be, and has operated as a winger before on numerous occasions.
Even when the Man City man starts the game at left-back, he has real attacking intent. During his final two seasons with Belgian side Anderlecht, he racked up an incredible 11 goals and 22 assists in 73 league games from left-back!
Sergio Gomez would be a tremendous signing for West Ham United this summer, especially for just £12.7 million.
However, it seems as though we’re going to miss out on the 23-year-old’s signature unfortunately.
