Reece Oxford continues to impress in Germany with Augsburg and it’s looking like West Ham made a big mistake by selling him.

The 23-year-old has been in sensational form for Augsburg in the Bundesliga this season and his performances have some West Ham fans asking why on earth we ever sold him in the first place.

Oxford burst onto the scene in East London in 2015, making his Premier League debut against Arsenal, and he completely bossed the game. He really did look like the real deal at the time.

Unfortunately for both Oxford and West Ham, however, he failed to kick on from that point onwards.

After a couple of loan spells away from the London Stadium, he was sold permanently to Augsburg in the summer of 2019 for around £3 million (Daily Mail).

At the time, it was suggested that Oxford had attitude problems but he firmly denied those accusations, as covered right here on Hammers News.

The 23-year-old has been a shining light for Augsburg this season. His future may well lie in the Premier League though.

Oxford recently told The Telegraph that he hopes to return to the Premier League in the near future. Whichever club tries to sign him will face a really hard task of praising him away from Augsburg, however. He is really highly rated at the Augsburg Arena.

Augsburg won 3-0 and subsequently moved three points clear of the Bundesliga drop zone.

Oxford was totally dominant at the back for his team and he didn’t give the Wolfsburg attackers a sniff throughout the entire 90 minutes.

What an incredible player the former West Ham man is becoming.

Augsburg’s official Twitter account made it very clear just how much they appreciate the one-time Hammer last night:

With David Moyes in desperate need of bringing a new centre-back to the London Stadium in the summer, Oxford seems to be the ideal candidate.

His acrimonious exit from West Ham won’t make things easy but we are an exciting club now seemingly on the right trajectory and Reece would surely jump at the chance to prove himself with the Hammers in the Premier League again.

We would love to see Reece Oxford back in the Claret and Blue next season.
