The former Millwall man was the longest serving manager in the Premier League but has been surprisingly sacked after 10 years in charge.

Sky Sports claim Burnley Under 23s coach Mike Jackson and academy director Paul Jenkins will take charge of the relegation-threatened Clarets at West Ham.

It will be interesting to see whether the decision will spark a reaction against the Hammers.

West Ham and Burnley are desperate for the points for very different reasons. The Hammers are looking to consolidate their place in the European spots while Burnley are 18th and scrapping for survival.

Burnley chairman Alan Pace praised Dyche’s tenure in a statement but said results have not been good enough.

“Results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status,” Pace said (Sky Sports).

“The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course.”

Angry Jamie Carragher hits out over big decision ahead of West Ham clash with Burnley

The decision has left many football fans and pundits baffled.

Now an angry Jamie Carragher has hit out after hearing the big news ahead of the West Ham clash with Burnley in less than 48 hours.

“What a joke!” Carragher said in response to Burnley’s announcement on Twitter.

“If you had given him a decent budget you would never have had a worry about getting relegated.”

The timing is utterly bizarre and clearly designed to get some sort of manager bounce reaction from the team.

But by all accounts the players at Burnley were still very much behind their boss ahead of the clash with West Ham.

Carragher is spot on, it is a joke decision.

Let’s hope it is West Ham laughing come Sunday afternoon.
