McCoist attended the Hammers’ FA Cup victory over Brentford two weeks ago, when the winger suffered his injury.
The Rangers legend and TNT Sports commentator was surprised by a decision that could have made Summerville’s calf worse.

Ally McCoist questions Crysencio Summerville injury situation
McCoist was surprised by Nuno Espirito Santo’s decision not to take Summerville off after he initially hurt his calf against Brentford.
West Ham had no more substitutions, but it would surely have been sensible to protect one of their best players from further damage.
“They need to get Summerville back,” Ray Parlour said to McCoist on talkSPORT. “Summerville was on fire, wasn’t he?”
“Well, here’s an interesting one. I was at the game where he got injured,” McCoist responded.
“He did his calf, right? I know they had used all of their subs, so they couldn’t make any, but he stayed on the pitch.
“I was thinking to myself, ‘If you do a calf, you’ve got to go off.’ [That could be] an extra week, two games, 10 days, whatever it may be.”
West Ham supporters may now be wondering whether Summerville prolonged his recovery process by staying on the pitch.
The discussion will become even more pertinent if the Dutchman is still not available after the international break.

However, on a separate note, McCoist suggested that West Ham should avoid relegation from the Premier League.
“West Ham are the one – Sunday aside – that I think have looked as if they’ve got a bit about them,” he added.
Although the Hammers were thrashed by Villa at the weekend, they have shown signs of encouragement recently.
Summerville’s return will certainly play a significant role in their ability to fight off Tottenham in the battle for survival.
